Our Story

Sweet Haven Bakery opened its doors in downtown Flint, Michigan, in 2010, founded by husband-and-wife team Elena and Marcus Rivera. What started as a small passion for blending Elena’s Puerto Rican family recipes with classic American comforts has grown into a beloved local institution over the past 15 years.

From the beginning, the Riveras made community a cornerstone of their business. Whether delivering free pastries to first responders during tough times or donating 10% of weekend proceeds to Flint youth programs and local schools, Sweet Haven has always believed in giving back to the city that welcomed them.

Today, Elena leads the baking with cousin Sofia, while Marcus and barista Jamal keep the front warm and welcoming. With every guava pastelito and cinnamon roll, Sweet Haven continues to be more than a bakery—it’s a place where neighbors gather, stories are shared, and Flint feels a little sweeter.

Our Mission

We donate 10% of proceeds to support Flint youth programs and community growth.

For over 15 years, Sweet Haven Bakery has proudly donated 10% of every weekend's proceeds to support Flint and Genesee County's most vulnerable youth. Founders Elena and Marcus Rivera started this tradition on opening day, believing that a thriving community begins with empowered children.

The funds rotate among local nonprofits addressing education, food insecurity, trauma recovery, and enrichment—causes close to the Riveras' hearts, inspired by their own journey raising a family in Flint.

Over the years, these contributions have helped fund everything from art supplies and tutoring to therapy sessions and nutritious snacks—small acts that create big ripples in young lives.

At Sweet Haven, giving back isn't a side note—it's baked into who we are. Every pastry you enjoy helps make Flint a sweeter place for the next generation.
